Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP)

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Those two approaches work beautifully with EMDR to give you profound experience of healing in a safe space.

Because no two people are the same, I use multiple approaches to create a custom experience for my clients.  I draw from EMDR (see specialty page), IFS and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy as my primary modalities.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma

I am a certified level 1 Sensorimotor Psychotherapist and use this modality to help clients regain a sense of control over their emotional world, reduce triggers produced by traumatic experiences, gain knowledge about themselves and improve resilience and self worth.

SP can bridge the gap when traditional “talk” therapy has not helped. SP can help with trauma and attachment related issues such as the ones listed above.

Here is a bit about sensorimotor by its founder Pat Ogden

"Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a therapeutic modality for trauma and attachment issues. SP welcomes the body as an integral source of information which can guide resourcing and the accessing and processing of challenging, traumatic, and developmental experience. SP is a holistic approach that includes somatic, emotional, and cognitive processing and integration."

The interview below of Dr. Ogden on The Trauma Therapist Podcast features discussion of a composite case, which helps highlight the use of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy in practice.

Internal Family Systems

Imagine that, within you, there are many parts. For example, you may currently have a part that is analyzing this page to see if my therapeutic style is a good fit for you. You may also have a part that is worried about not finding a good therapist, and another part who wants to get this search over with and make an appointment.

In sessions, I help clients access parts that may be suffering, parts that may block access to other parts that are suffering, and parts that have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms to soothe the suffering.  This therapy style uses internal dialogues and imagination to access some deep and locked in parts that would like to be free.

Key Principles:

Parts Exploration: We identify and explore various parts of your psyche, understanding their roles, concerns, and impacts on your thoughts and behaviors.

Self-Leadership: Through the process, we cultivate the concept of "Self," which represents your core, compassionate, and wise nature. This helps guide and lead the internal system towards healing.

Integration: The goal is to facilitate communication and cooperation among these parts, fostering a more unified and resilient sense of self.
